Dear CMS Families and Staff:
We’ve had a wonderful end to the summer, complete with a touching graduation ceremony, some field trips, water play, library walks, and new work in the classrooms to ready for fall. Of course, at this time of year, we always miss the folks who have gone, but we’re also excited about the new faces around CMS. Please welcome Ashley Meyer, Lily Wehtje, and Rachael Parrish to our Primary staffs, and we’ll soon be getting Melaina back in Pre-Primary. We’re going to have a wonderful fall!
Additionally, we’ve welcomed many new friends at the end of the summer. Please welcome Joseph Lester (Infants), Darcy Chegwidden (Infants), Dylan Voshage (Infants), Brody Stranz (Infants), Jack Courtney (P1), Elizabeth Edgington Dorman (P1), William Hague (P3), Hanna Perry (P3), Gavyn Thordarson (P3), Evan York (P3), and Alex Perry (P2). We are excited to welcome those families to the CMS community!
We have some upcoming events that I wanted to touch upon in this letter. First, please remember that school is closed on Monday, September 6 for Labor Day. Next, the Shakespeare’s Pizza (Downtown) fundraiser for CMS is Thursday, September 9. We hope we have a great turnout from CMS families and friends, as a portion of all the proceeds are donated back to the school. We will have our first Parent Work Day of the new school year on Saturday, September 11. It will last from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and it will focus on some outside work we’d like to do around the school (weather permitting). Finally, I know they are a few weeks down the road, but we have a few community building events planned. It will give parents a chance to meet other families, see the staffs, visit classrooms, and find out about how they can use their skills and talents to help our school community. Our Back to School Night is from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday 22, and our CMS Family Potluck will be Saturday, October 2.
I would like to close this month by asking parents to review a few pieces included in this newsletter. First, there is an addendum to our school’s Emergency Plan. It deals with how we handle severe weather and a loss of power (which we experienced this summer). Second, please review the official school calendar. It is similar to our school calendars of previous years, though we’ve added a third Teacher Work Day this year. A supplemental Activities Calendar for the 2010-11 school year is currently being compiled, and it should be ready to go home in September.
