February 3rd, 6pm-7pm at CMS
New training and support program coming to CMS. Early
Childhood Positive Behavior Support (EC PBS). The program will
provide training for teachers, administration and families
throughout the year. Will focus on universal classroom
management skills, social emotional development and positive
behavior support strategies. Our teachers are excited for the
opportunity to receive training and support.
Vicki Davolt, EC
PBS Coordinator, will be coming to CMS In order
to give families more information and an opportunity to
ask questions. We have this scheduled for Friday, February 3 at 6pm
but due to the low attendance of this last forum we are looking at
possibly rescheduling for mid week for convenience.
We will send confirmation next week for the date and time.
Our primary classrooms are transforming and will soon be together on the upper level. P1 & P3 are officially combined. P2 is excited to announce they will be moving up to the P1 classroom. This will allow all our primary classes to be in close proximity to one another.
P1 and P3 have been working together for awhile. They noticed with the multi-age grouping, thoughtful planning and preparing of the environment, friends were peacefully choosing work individually and in small groups. We have amazing teachers that work hard and are dedicated to each child's success. With two rooms next to each other it makes sense to move P2, so primary classes can be on the same floor, which will help with professional collaboration, planning age appropriate group activities, child directed projects, and transitions to and from the afternoon enrichment program.
Each class has notified their parents of the upcoming changes. I thought the following were thoughtful messages from each room.
We have been spending a lot of work periods together throughout this transition, and because the classrooms have been working so harmoniously we’ve decided to move forward with integrating. Together we create a stimulating, multi-age and diverse community ~P1&P3 Family Communication Newsletter~
We are so excited to announce that P2 will be moving upstairs. This is a good move for several reasons. The first of which will be a stronger primary unit. With us being in closer proximity to the other primary room, it will encourage a partnership between the primary rooms. Transportation between friends for the afternoon enrichment program will be right through a door that connects both rooms. Both work trays on shelves, and work in storage will be shared between primary rooms, which will keep things fresh and exciting for friends, and a collaborative effort will be fostered between teachers. Combining for special celebrations will feel smooth and natural for our classroom friends, teachers, and families.

Teachers, friends and families have expressed excitement and joy! Please stop in anytime to observe, ask questions or to see the transformation in each room.
With classes combining and changes happening at CMS, the teachers and administration have talked and decided that our new rooms need new names. This week teachers and friends will be brainstorming ideas. Each class will be discussing our great outdoors to find the name that represents their room. We will be reaching out to our community and the names will be revealed at the next community forum. Teachers understand this is a big responsibility and they are mindful that the name could be attached to CMS for another 50 years.
Below are a few pictures of the upstairs transformation. Help is always needed. Please feel free to call if you are interested in painting or moving items when the room is finished.
It's that time of year again. We are kicking off the biggest fundraiser for Columbia Montessori School, the CMS Trivia Night and Silent Auction. It is such a fun event to attend and it's for such a great cause as well. The trivia is fantastic, the silent auction is amazing, oh and a night out with ADULT friends!
The event is on Friday, April 28th, at the Peachtree Banquet Center.
All of this is possible because of the great work leading up to the event. And there are so many different ways that you can help.
We need the most help now with acquiring silent auction items. This is something that can be done over the next few weeks. We have a google sign-up to give you an idea who has been contacted and donated in previous years. You can call, email, stop in, or some (like the Royals and Cardinals) have a fax-in form. If you have any questions, please let me know. We will be sending out letters and receipt forms to work with via email. We will also be emailing you a link to the google sign-up as well.
We are also looking for someone to assist in chairing this event and leading this great event in future years.
Thank you in advance for your time and commitment to the school. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
