Pre-Primary Room News

There have been many changes happening in Pre-Primary over the past month. The most obvious change is you have a new lead teacher! My name is Amanda Boyer, and I am so excited to get to know your kids and you. I have lived in Missouri my whole life with my parents and 3 other siblings. I have a bachelor degree in photography from University of Central Missouri. After graduation, I moved to Kansas City, where I worked for a photo lab, then moved back to Columbia to be with my fiancé. I will be getting married on May 29th, and I am very excited, but also nervous at the same time. I came to CMS about a year ago and served as the Assistant Lead in Toddlers, which was awesome, but I felt like I had more potential to grow. I am thrilled by this new opportunity.

In the next few months, we will be doing many exciting things in PP. I will be putting a calendar in the parent files outside the class including upcoming events and field trips, because we will be going on many! Some places PP is thinking about going are: Flat Branch Park, Red Mango ice cream, Children’s Museum, Walkabout Acres, the Pumpkin Patch, and maybe even the Magic House in St. Louis. If anyone has any other fun places that you have been to or think the friends might enjoy please let me know, because I am always looking for new adventures for the friends. Also, when it gets warmer, we will be taking walks every Friday, either around the block or to the library so the friends can pick out books. In June, we will start water play every Wednesday, which the friends love! For water play, you will need to make sure your child has a swimsuit, towel, and swim diapers so they can participate.

As well as trips, PP friends will also be learning about many things in the upcoming months. We will cover a different unit every week. This past week we learned about jungle animals by acting like animals, reading about animals, talking about animals, and singing. Friends really enjoyed the animal unit. Our next unit is going to be on spring/plants. If parents have any suggestions as to what other things friends have been talking about or interested in feel free to let one of the PP teachers know so that all friends may learn about it through our units.

In closing, I would like to remind all the parents to check the lost and found outside the classroom; it is getting a little full. Also, the PP staff has also noticed that friends like to share jackets/clothing, so if we could put names or initials on clothing in permanent marker that would be helpful in identifying who they really belong to. In coming newsletters I will be informing you about birthdays and the laundry list for the month. I wanted to thank you for making me feel welcome in PP, and I look forward to getting to know all of you much better in the months to come!

Thank you from Preprimary!
