Hola, Bonjour, Hello!  We have been busy in our classroom this past month!  We have created and practiced our classroom rules and routines.  Your children play an integral role in the creation of our “can-do” rules and help one another remember them throughout the day.  Role-playing how to work out our problems with the Peace Rose has also been a popular activity over the last few weeks.  In addition to building a positive classroom community, we have discussed different human dwellings (houses, apartments, igloos, teepees, etc.) as well as homelessness.  The children really enjoyed our unit on mammals and amphibians. 
October will be another busy month!  We will continue our study of vertebrate animals including reptiles and birds and move on to invertebrates as the month progresses.  We will also resurrect our learning of sign language and talk about ways we can be respectful to our Earth (picking up trash, not wasting water or electricity, recycling…).  We hope very much to go on a field trip this month.  I would love to take the children to Peach Tree Farm but we need parent drivers.  If anyone is interested in volunteering let me know and we can organize a date! 
I’ve noticed that many of our friends have been interested in writing.  We have created pages of tracing work for the children to practice their writing (names, alphabet, and numbers).  Please ask your child to see their work.  They are very proud of it!
I hope all of you have had the opportunity to speak with Kayse and Molly (our alternating PII closers).  We are glad to have them with us.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at school or home (816-841-3735).  Sometimes it is difficult to communicate during morning drop-off because many friends are arriving at once.  If we don’t get a chance to speak at that time, we will schedule a time to talk.  Thank you for sharing your children with us.

*We welcome William Henry Grus, Emma’s new baby brother, to our world!  Congratulations Grus family, we can’t wait to meet him.  Emma is sooo excited to be a big sister.
